Morse’s Sauerkraut and Euro Deli
We are always thinking of fun new things our guests at the The Hartstone Inn to do during their visits. Located in Waldoboro, about 30 minutes from Camden, is Morse’s Sauerkraut and Euro Deli. Known for their homemade sauerkraut, of which their recipe dates back to the early 1900’s, this is a great place to find specialty food items. As stated in their website, they carry “select Speck and Schinken hams from Germany, Parma Prosciutto from Italy, Bavarian sausages, aged Dutch Goudas, Swiss Gruyeres, English cheddars and hundreds of other fine meats and cheeses.” It’s not just meats and cheese though. There are preserved fruits, pickles, spices and other items.
Morse’s also has a restaurant. The dining room is rustic and warm but consists of only four booths. You will find many sauerkraut dishes including everything from a classic rueben to goulash. There is much more though. Perogies, cabbage rolls, spaetzle, schnitzel, borscht, and more! They serve European breakfast dishes too including German puffed pancakes filled with ginger-sugared apples, potato pancakes, and cheese blintzes.
The owners are welcoming and friendly and happy to tell you about the history behind their business. They also give tours of the facility. It is worth the trip the next time you are in the Camden area!
