Go Artisan for the Holidays: Shop Maine

Maine is a place of unmatched beauty and the birthplace of astounding art. Maine also is a place where people make their own way and entrepreneurs thrive. It’s no wonder then, that artisans dominate the landscape of our home, and that around every Midcoast Maine bend lives a true master of an artform. Below are just two of the artists inspiring the Hartstone Inn crew to shop Maine at the moment.

Two Artists Who Will Make You Proud to Shop Maine

  1. Erica Moody. A professional metal fabricator, Erica started out in the mid-1990s making custom pieces for clients all over the state. From railings to finely crafted furniture pieces, she takes great pride in resolving unique engineering challenges that also require fussy attention to fine detail and well-executed craft. In 2016 she started creating fine tools for the kitchen. These smaller pieces of her own design brought together her love of detailed craftsmanship and her passion for serving good food. We find her serving pieces to be the perfect marriage of form and function, bringing a creative spark to everyday items. Shop Maine by visiting her website and online store here.
  2. Julie Morringello. Julie melded her background as both an industrial designer and furniture designer/maker into — literally— a shining new business in 2011. Modernmaine crafts striking pendant lighting from (primarily) maple wood veneer that simply glows. Julie’s work blends her knowledge of functional design and manufacturing processes with a love of materials and self-expression. She crafts everything in her studio on Deer Isle and sources all the necessary components as close to home as possible. We can’t take our eyes off these striking pieces and know you’ll find them as compelling as we do. Don’t miss the one-of-a-kind pendants featured on the light totems page of her website.
